The 'Voice' coach forced filming on the BBC One show to be temporarily suspended recently after he sent the studio audience "absolutely wild" when he reportedly made the shocking revelation during the live audition stage.

The 'Karma Chameleon' hitmaker told fellow mentor Paloma Faith: "I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson."

To which Paloma replied: "Well OK, if we're throwing big soul names out there I've performed with Prince."

George hit back: "Forget that, darling, I've slept with Prince."

A production team source told The Sun newspaper: "We just couldn't believe what he had come out with -- and the guys in the gallery were beside themselves.

"The crowd went absolutely wild because they thought they had just witnessed a massive celebrity exclusive."

The show producers reportedly rushed on stage and whispered in the 54-year-old singer's ear before he quickly retracted his claim about the iconic US performer, 57.

The insider explained: "Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them. After that Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn't really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall."

Boy George - whose real name is George Alan O'Dowd - joins Paloma, Will.i.am and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson on this year's judging panel on 'The Voice' after he replaced axed mentor Sir Tom Jones, 75.
