The Culture Club frontman previously branded the 'Ray of Light' singer "vile" and declares she hates him, but he has now admitted he regrets his comments because he's "fascinated" by the 62-year-old star and is a huge fan of her music.

In an interview with Jonathan Ross which will air on Saturday (24.04.21), the host reminded him of some of his previous comments about other celebrities, including describing Madonna as "vile, hideous human being with no redeeming qualities".

In response, George said: "It's not something I would say now… it's really just, I'm actually a bit embarrassed I said that.

"Madonna… she fascinates me. I love Madonna. Come on, how can you not? Of course I do. She's my contemporary. I've actually just sold some paintings of Madonna that I did."

And the 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?' hitmaker is even open to the idea of collaborating with Madonna on a song.

He said: "I've not had the good sense to do that [work with her]. Could happen though. I wasn't joking. Imagine me and Madonna on a record, it would be amazing come on."

George - whose real name is George O'Dowd - views his pop persona as a "cartoon character" and insisted the real him is very different to the flamboyant pop star.

He said: "That person is someone I created. I treat Boy George from the 80s as a sort of cartoon character.

"I'm not that person. I do a lot of paintings of Boy George as I think of him as an invention… He's a different person."

The 'Karma Chameleon' singer turns 60 this summer, but still feels much younger.

He said: "I still feel like a teenager really. And act like one a lot…

"Some people grow into themselves and some people grow out of themselves. For me as I've got older, I've started to like myself more and I've sort of become a gentler person and more compassionate.

"When you're more compassionate towards yourself, then you're more compassionate to everyone else, which is a nice thing."
