Chris Rock has said he'd take his mother to the Oscars on her 70th birthday if he's nominated, but if not he'll instead take her to dine out at fast food joint Fatburger.

The actor's mother turns 70 on the same day as the Academy Awards and so as a special birthday treated, he's vowed to take her as his guest to the event if he gets a nod for his comedy movie 'Top Five'.

If not however, she'll have to make do with the fast-food restaurant chain.

Campaigning for votes at the Variety Creative Impact Awards at the Parker Palm Springs Resort in California, he joked: "Comedies never get nominated.

"So I'm going to blatantly appeal to the voters. February 22 is my mother's birthday. 70th birthday. If I'm nominated, I will take her to the Oscars. If not, I will take her to Fatburger."

Chris went on to add: "We're out here for... what are we out here for? The Variety Creative Impact Awards. But, you know, we're trolling for Oscar votes. Let's be honest.

"We gotta pretend like, 'Yeah, I'm always out here. I like cactus. I'm out here.' "

The comedian won the Creative Impact in Comedy prize at the event.
