The 35-year-old model has joked that being awarded the coveted accolade is a double-edged sword, after this year's winner, Billie Eilish, suggested she shouldn't have been given the gong.

Chrissy - who is married to Grammy-winning star John Legend - wrote on Twitter: "winning record of the year sucks because you can’t enjoy it when everyone’s telling you why you don’t deserve it. it’s just s***. people suck. and it’s not the record of the year winner. (sic)"

Billie, 19, won the accolade for 'Everything I Wanted', but she subsequently insisted that Megan Thee Stallion was a more worthy winner of the prize for 'Savage', her collaboration with Beyonce.

Accepting the accolade from Sir Ringo Starr, she said: "I'm embarrassed. Megan, girl, I was going to write a speech about how you deserve this, but then I was like, 'There's no way they're going to choose me'. You deserve this.

"This is really embarrassing for me. I was like, 'It's hers'. You deserve this.

"You had a year I think was un-toppable, you are a queen, I want to cry thinking about how much I love you.

"You're so beautiful, you're so talented, you deserve everything in the world. I think about you constantly, I root for you always. You deserve it, honestly. Genuinely, this goes to her. Can we cheer for Megan Thee Stallion please."

Billie's comments have been widely compared to Adele's remarks when she won the accolade in 2017, when she suggested Beyonce was the more worthy winner.

The London-born star said at the time: "I can’t possibly accept this award … I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful … but my artist of my life is Beyonce. And this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album, is just so monumental."
