Christian Bale

Christian Bale has stated he didn't mean to "disrespect" fellow actor George Clooney with his comments about the paparazzi.

The star criticised George in an interview with WSJ magazine for "whining" about the attention he receives when he's out in public.

Christian said at the time: "It doesn't matter that he talks about it. It's like, 'Come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it.' I prefer not to whine about it."

However, he's since apologised to George and admitted their lives don't "even begin to compare".

Speaking to E! News, Christian explained: "I never meant any disrespect whatsoever.

"I've got immense respect for him and I can't even begin to imagine the invasion of his privacy. Our lives don't even begin to compare. He's a true movie star. I'm just somebody who was lucky to get a job."

Originally he was explaining how rude comments about his wife from paparazzi annoyed him, but they were looking for that angry picture and "killing his humanity and dignity".

He recalled a trip to Italy and said: "I was in Italy with my wife. I would go to work; she would leave the hotel.

"There would be a man who stood outside... and say the most obscene things imaginable to my wife...

"He's killing my humanity and my dignity as a husband if I do not, and he knows this. So you've got a choice."
