The 25th annual ceremony took place on Tuesday (18.05.21) with Jameela Jamil hosting while the likes of James Corden, Ava DuVernay and Riz Ahmed also collected prizes.

According to the organisers, this year's honours were "dedicated to the outstanding individuals, organisations and projects that found creative and innovative ways to use the Internet to help the world stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic".

Johnson, DuVernay, Ahmed, Dr. Fauci and Andra Day were given Special Achievement recognition.

In keeping with its usual style, the Webbys acceptance speeches saw recipients encouraged to use just five words.

Johnson - recognised for "his phenomenal use of social media to connect with people, provide inspiration and motivation to millions of followers globally" - said: "Family. God. Country. Mahalo. Tequila."

Oprah - whose book club won the Arts & Culture, General Series (Podcasts) prize - added: "Powerful books can open minds."

Lin-Manuel Miranda referenced a song from 'Hamilton' after his hit Broadway show's Twitter Watch Party won the Webby and Webby People’s Voice Award for Events & Livestreams, Social Content Series & Campaigns (Social).

Not being able to finish the line, he quipped: "I'm not throwing away my..."

And Riz Ahmed delivered his speech in American Sign Language as he encouraged viewers: "GO where the fear is."
