Dwayne Johnson's mother has been released from hospital after being hit by a drunk driver.

The 'Hercules' actor, who previously confirmed two of his family members were involved in a serious collision on August 2 in Clermont, Florida, escorted Ata Naivia-Johnson home from this morning (12.08.14) and is relieved she will make a full recovery.

The 42-year-old shared a photograph of himself pushing her in a wheelchair on Instagram, with the caption: "Takin' mama home. Banged up, but she's a tough one and will make a full recovery. Grateful to see her smile. And thank you guys for all the prayers, love and well wishes. #GratitudeAndBearHugs #ChoicesMatter #100PercentPreventable #DontDrinkAndDrive (sic)."

Police charged the woman that crashed into Ata and Dwayne's cousin, Savelina 'Lina' Fanene, a WWE Diva, with driving under the influence yesterday (11.08.14), according to gossip website TMZ.com.

The star, also known as The Rock, previously credited his mother for inspiring him to get in shape and seek out a better life.

He said: "We were living in an efficiency that cost $120 a week. We come home, and there's a padlock on the door and an eviction notice. My mom starts bawling. She just started crying and breaking down. 'Where are we going to live? What are we going to do?'

"That was the tipping point. It was about, 'What can I control with these two hands?' The only thing I could do was train and build my body. The successful men I knew were men who built their bodies."
