The 36-year-old actor recently shed 21 per cent of his body fat in order to play a Navy SEAL in '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi' but admitted Emily Blunt, who he married in 2010, is not a fan of his newly sculpted body.

Speaking on 'The Late Show', he joked: "She hates it. She would way prefer to have doughy guy back."

John also admitted that getting in shape was much more difficult than he anticipated.

Speaking about working out with his trainer, he explained: "It's real work, too. I thought it would be like, 'Yeah, let's eat a couple Power Bars and do push-ups.' And he was like, 'No. It's going to be a living hell for six to eight weeks.'

"[Before] I couldn't do one pull-up. I was like, 'How hard are these pull-ups, really?'"

John also revealed that he wooed Emily, 32, by stroking her face the first time they met.

He said: "I don't know [how I got her]. And the way I acted was a little aggressive. The true story, when I met her, I was so nervous....I just touched her face and she was like, 'Don't do that,' and then called security. And we got married!"
