The 62-year-old actress' blood was boiling when she received an email from her another person in her apartment block insisting she wear slippers whilst walking around her home and turn down her television so as not to disturb them.

Writing on Twitter, she wrote: "My new neighbours want to buy me slippers & ban my TV. Hahahaha. I’ve lived here 20 years with gorgeous neighbours. What a f***** liberty.

"He had 4 months of unbearable drilling & hammering. Now he wants me to wear slippers. Oh my days (sic)."

Frances later received more bad news from her neighbour when he sent her a "passive-aggressive" email but was glad when his girlfriend later apologised on his behalf.

She continued on Twitter: "This appalling new neighbour wrote one of the most passive aggressive emails I’ve ever had. I replied. Then his girlfriend wrote “I’m taking over mikes emails” and apologised. Oh lady get out of there (sic)"

The 'Doctor Who' star is not afraid to air her opinions on the social media site but although she is very forthright on politics and other subjects she is yet to lose any friends in real life over her posts.

She said: "A few have told me every now and again to be careful, but I've still the same friends I had before I started making my views known.

"There are actors, of course, that I work with from time to time who I know aren't on the same page as me, but that's where professionalism kicks in. I did a play in the West End not so long ago with Edward Fox who was a big supporter of Brexit. When we spoke off-stage, we both just kept off the subject. He's a very fine actor and I think it would be obsessive to lose sight of that just because I don't agree with his politics."
