The loved up couple had to self-isolate last month after Trisha tested positive for COVID-19, and the 59-year-old singer has revealed how they used the time to work on their 15-year marriage.

Appearing on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', he told guest host Stephen 'tWitch' Boss: "We used it to work on ourselves because we were by ourselves for two weeks, almost three weeks

“I think 99.9 per cent of people wouldn’t have done what I [did] but I thought ‘since we’re here and we ain’t got nowhere to go, let’s just attack some of the hardest things over the 15 years that bugs one of us,’ right?

“[We] were living in a little house, you couldn’t go anywhere so you couldn’t walk away from the conversation.

"I thought it was great, I think we came out the other end even closer and tighter than we were when we went in.”

Trisha agreed with her husband, and noted how important it is for a couple to be able to discuss "the hard stuff".

She explained: "If you can talk about the hard stuff it’s good and we’re in this for the long haul so you’re stuck with me.”

Meanwhile, Garth had high praise for his wife after her battle with the coronavirus, and joked he realised she was back to her best when she "got real mean and sassy" with him.

He said: "She’s more gorgeous than she’s ever been. She seems to be 100 per cent, she got real at the end there during fatigue, she got real mean and sassy and I thought, ‘Oh, she’s back to herself.' ”

Garth previously explained his 56-year-old wife discovered she had coronavirus after they were both tested when a member of their team had a positive test.

Due to the severe weather conditions in Tennessee, the pair had to delay getting tested by a week after they were exposed to the highly contagious respiratory illness.

Garth admitted he was concerned about the "long-term effect" coronavirus could have on his other half.

He continued: “She’s tough. She’s stronger than me. If anyone asks, that’s [say a prayer] what you can do for her. That’s what I’m doing. Living with her, I sometimes take it for granted she’s one of the greatest voices in all of music, so the possible long-term effects on her concern me as her husband and as a fan.”
