The 59-year-old Hollywood star - who married the 42-year-old human rights attorney in Italy six years ago - admitted he is grateful for the connection they share, and he insisted they have both found it "really easy" to be kept inside together during the pandemic.

He told PEOPLE magazine: "I feel very lucky in so many ways to have met her. We haven’t ever had an argument.

"You know, everybody’s been slammed together because of the coronavirus and a lot of friends’ relationships have been tested. For us, it’s been really easy.”

George heaped praise on his wife's dedication to her activism, philanthropy and humanitarian causes, and acknowledged how their joint passion wasn't the reason they fell in love, but it's helped their relationship grow.

He added: "She succeeds in so many different ways and stands up for what she believes in.

"We didn’t fall in love because of our work, but it ended up being something unusual we [share] ... We are really lucky and we know it."

The couple welcomed twins Alexander and Ella into the world three years ago, and the 'Midnight Sky' actor explained how his kids continue to inspire him.

He said: "I’m in the same situation as most fathers of three-year-olds: I don’t want my children when they’re 15 years old to turn around and say, 'There was a time when they were putting kids in cages? ... And what did you do about that?'

“And if the answer is ‘nothing,’ then I would be ashamed.

He noted how he hopes their children are inspired in turn to "pick the same kind of fights", as he and Amal continue to work on the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which promotes accountability for human rights abuses.

He explained: "I hope that will be my wife’s and my legacy to our children.

"It just means standing up for things you believe in, standing up for equality. Who could be against equality?”
