James Arthur has quit Twitter.

The 2012 'X Factor' winner has posted his last message on the site after posting a number of controversial comments and a rap song featuring a homophobic slur which got him into hot water.

Today (17.11.13) signed off with: "#LOVE to my fans but I'm coming off twitter for good. HQ will be doing all my tweets from now on. PEACE!"

The 25-year-old apologised for calling DJ Micky Worthless a "f***ing q****" during a rap battle.

He said: "I have to say I'm extremely disappointed in myself for being so naive with this diss track I made for an unknown rapper recently.

"I would just like to make it completely clear that it was not meant in anyway as a reference to homosexuality.

"I realise where the term has come from in meaning... But used in the context of the rap battles I have grown up with it has come to mean something completely different.. That said, I understand why it could cause offence and that definitely wasn't my intention."

The 'You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You' singer added that it wasn't a reflection of his true character and he has "many, many gay friends".

He left Twitter in the hands of his management after a number of rants, including one aimed at boyband One Direction.

James also had one last row with comedian Frankie Boyle, after the stand-up star tweeted: "Sorry, I beef with playas only.

"I'll leave you to the battle rap scene and getting hit so hard your teeth go normal."

The singer hit back, writing: "Haha how original with the teeth thing. Note to self: sort teeth! Must sort teeth!! Your (sic) an old washed up nerd with poor jokes."
