John Legend revealed his proposal to Chrissy Teigen was almost ruined by airport security.
The 'Greenlight' singer recalled his panic after a box hiding his engagement ring for the model was almost discovered during procedural checks at customs, after he had secretly planned to pop the question in the Maldives back in December 2011.
Speaking during an interview on 'Oprah's Next Chapter', he explained: "I knew I was going to propose by then, so I was planning it a couple months in advance.
"I was trying to hide the ring in my bag, and she can see anything in my bag - I don't hide stuff from her - so I had to put it in a nondescript box that she wouldn't question. It was in my carry-on bag going through the airport security, and security wanted to look through my bag and they wanted to look in that particular box."
"Chrissy was standing right next to me and I was, like, oh, my God. I've hid it so well this whole time. Now as we're just about to get to the Maldives she's going find out I have a ring in this box and it's going to ruin the surprise and I'll have to get on my knees in the airport, in front of security."
John was relieved when security decided to give the box a miss.
He added: "For some reason they decided not to look in the box, they just didn't look."
John and Chrissy's interview - which will be aired this Sunday (29.09.13) - comes after they tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, earlier this month.
