The 33-year-old Colombian singer's private plane took off from Burbank airport in California on 29 February but was forced to turn around and make an unscheduled landing 15 miles away at Van Nuys airport due to a fire in the cockpit and the reggaeton star is relieved that everyone is "OK" following the incident.

She told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I'm great, thank God. I am super happy my family is OK, I am OK, and everything's good."

And the incident has only made Karol feel more grateful for the good things in her life, including being named Woman of the Year at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

She said of the honour on the red carpet at the ceremony: "I don't know. It feels so different -- I have to say that this one feels super different. Always super grateful of all the things I have achieved but this one especially is.

"It's about the fight, it's about how hard it's been, like the path. Not just my path, I think the path of every one woman that [is] right here right now. So to have that title name, it's a lot of responsibility, but I get it. I love to work and I love this.

"I do this with a lot of passion, so tonight, I am enjoying the night and I'm super proud. I am super happy and I am super grateful."

Despite the aircraft emergency, Karol went on to stick with her tour commitments and addressed the incident on stage in Guatemala.

As translated by Pop Crave, she previously told the crowd: "I don't know what's happening energetically, but whatever it is, I'm not going to give up. And you came to see my show."

Abc7.com stated the pilot reported seeing smoke in the cockpit and the jet was greeted by emergency crews after touching down at Van Nuys.

Video footage showed the singer exiting the aircraft and shaking hands with a member of the flight team before hugging a pal on the tarmac.
