The 29-year-old star - who has newborn son Cree with her husband Rio Ferdinand - admits she dreads the day every year as she worries about being "selfish" because both Rio and his children - Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and nine-year-old Tia - have lost their mothers.

She told The Sun's Fabulous magazine: "It’s a difficult day in our house because the children have lost their mum and Rio’s lost his as well, so I always feel anxious in the lead up to it. We always have a lovely day, but the build-up is hard. I’ll find it hard to celebrate myself as I don’t want to seem insensitive or selfish when Rio and the kids have lost their mums. So we’ll do a family PJs day and have a toast to Rebecca and Janice. And to me as well."

Meanwhile, Kate previously admitted she "cried every single day for a year" when she first moved in with her husband and found it difficult to be a supportive stepmother to Rio and Rebecca’s children as her heart was "breaking" for the family.

She said: "I cried every single day for a year when I first moved in with Rio. It was an incredibly difficult time because his mum Janice passed away [of cancer in 2017] just two years after they had lost Rebecca. My heart was breaking for them. All I wanted to do was try to fix him, make the kids happy and be as kind and supportive as I could. I gave up my job. I wanted to do everything right. But I didn’t know how to cook. I kept getting things wrong, like forgetting to put a gym kit in a school bag or missing an email from one of the kids’ teachers."
