The 'Night Changes' singer praised the "different class" of the group's supporters shortly after he clashed online with his former bandmate - who quit the group in March - and Zayn's pal Naughty Boy.

Louis wrote: "Our fans support really has been a different class ! Huge love to you guys !!(sic)"

His comment came after Zayn, 22, complained he was being "attacked" after the row.

He tweeted: "Don't know why I'm being attacked for defending myself , people got it twisted! I love my fans ?! Every single one of you x (sic)."

Louis triggered the row after he mocked a picture filter Naughty Boy used on an image of himself and Zayn in the recording studio.

He wrote: "Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha ! Some people still do HA!"

The 'La La La' producer responded: "And some people can't even sing.. but who's complaining when there's auto tune eh (sic)"

Defending his friend, Zayn tweeted: "@Louis_Tomlinson remember when you had a life and stopped making b***hy comments about mine? (sic)"

Louis then accused Naughty Boy of "riding on the back of someone else's career," but the 30-year-old DJ fired back: "Yeah how does it feel mate? You've been doing that for the last five years... I've got Emeli Sande and Sam smith on my CV.(sic)"

The 'Best Song Ever' hitmaker then defended his own credentials, writing: "Good for you, well done !! I think we've done alright in terms of sales and I've happened to write on most. Keep trying! (sic)"
