The 'Hung Up' hitmaker was estranged from her second child for several months at the beginning of this year, after he left her 'Rebel Heart' tour in December to live in the UK with his father Guy Ritchie, but they have been taking steps to repair their fractured relationship and she took to Instagram on Thursday (11.08.16) to share a number of posts in honour of the teenager's 16th birthday.

In one image, which featured Rocco in the present day and also as a toddler, she wrote: "Happy Birthday Wild Child! Time waits for no one!! (sic)"

A second picture featured the 57-year-old singer cradling Rocco when he was still very young and was captioned: "Once my baby always my baby. Happy Sweet 16! (sic)"

The third image Madonna shared seemed to have been taken on her recent family visit to Kenya and featured Rocco and his adopted younger brother David, nine, brandishing shields to the camera.

She wrote: "Happy Birthday to my First Born Son! A true Warrior with a beautiful Heart. Let the Sun shine (sic)"

It was previously claimed the 'Material Girl' singer - who also has daughters Lourdes, 19, and Mercy, 10 - had sought advice from a specialist in teenage psychology in a bid to improve her bond with Rocco.

A source previously said: "She's been advised not to confront him with all her concerns, but to be relaxed and talk about other, 'non-provocative' subjects.

"She has also been told not to confuse her agenda with her ex-husband and his wife Jacqui Ainsley with her relationship with her son.

"She has to accept Rocco adores his father and if she continues slagging Guy off, which she has done so publicly, all she is doing is more and more damage to her bond with Rocco."
