The 56-year-old music mogul was sleeping upstairs in the £35 million property with his partner Lauren Silverman and their two-year-old son Eric when robbers raided their house on December 4, 2015 and MailOnline reports that Darren February, 32, has been charged.

He is set to appear on bail at Hammersmith Magistrates' Court on October 5.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "This follows an investigation by officers from Kensington and Chelsea CID."

Following the raid last year, Simon insisted he wanted a face-to-face meeting with those responsible.

He explained: "One hundred per cent I'd like to meet the guy. If we found him I'd want to have a conversation with him. I don't want to say too much right now because I am angry. As a dad you have to understand the psychological damage it does having someone you don't know in your home three feet away from your little boy.

"What would have happened if he had woken up? I don't want to feel too much like a victim here because this happens to thousands of people every, bloody day.

"I have three dogs and they didn't make a sound. They're usually always barking but they chose not to at that time. Now I have dogs that bark."

Simon added: "He got up to the first floor and there were two doors, one to my bedroom and one to my bathroom, which leads to a dressing room where the safe was.

"So he could have walked into my bedroom. Instead, he chose the other so he went through the bathroom. I think he had inside knowledge, definitely."
