The 45-year-old actor tries to work out on a regular basis as it is much "easier" to keep up with a fitness regime then seeing his weight fluctuate between roles.

He said: "It gets harder the older you get. That's why staying in shape and maintaining it is always easier than going from one extreme to the other, heavy to getting in shape to stopping training and getting heavy again."

The 'Lone Survivor' actor - who was arrested numerous times in his youth and spent time in jail for assault - admitted he wouldn't go to the trouble of giving himself advice when he was younger as he was such a cocky teenager.

He told the new issue of Men's Health magazine: "People always ask, 'What would you say to the 15- or 16-year-old Mark Wahlberg? I say, 'Why would I bother? He wouldn't listen. He thought he knew it all.' "

As well as his successful acting career, Mark - who has daughters Ella, 12 and Grace, six, and sons Brendan, seven and Michael, 10, with his wife Rhea Durham - is also a successful producer and co-owns Wahlburgers restaurants with his brothers Paul and Donnie.

And the 'Ted' star isn't afraid to show up gaps in his knowledge of his other ventures by asking questions.

He said: "I'm not afraid to ask questions. I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about. If there's something I don't understand, I'm the first one to say, 'Explain that to me until I do understand it.' Like learning the beverage business, learning the restaurant business."
