Michael Douglas' fans are supporting a new petition to try to help him visit his incarcerated son.
Douglas is desperate to be reunited with his eldest son, Cameron Douglas, who has been held in solitary confinement at the Federal Corrections Institute for almost two years, for drug offences.
Activist Tony Papa of the Drug Policy Alliance, who is acting as an advocate for Cameron, started the petition on Change.org as he believes Michael, 68, is being unfairly punished for his son's addiction.
"At first, Michael blamed his son for the mess he got into, but now, he is questioning the Bureau of Prisons and asking why he is being prevented from visiting his son for two years. Prison does not end at the prison wall... It severely affects the family members and loved ones of those who are incarcerated. Michael Douglas is being punished for his son's drug addiction." He told Radar Online:
Michael took aim at the American prison system during his acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards last month.
He said: "If you happen to have a slip - this is for a prisoner who is non-violent - as about a half a million of our drug addicted prisoners are, they punish you.
"So for my son's case, he's spent almost two years in solitary confinement and right now I'm being told that I cannot see him for two years."
Cameron - whose mother is Diandra Luker - was handed a five-year sentence for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics in 2009, which was extended by four and a half years in 2011 after he committed drug infractions behind bars.
The 34-year-old budding actor is due to be released in 2018.
