The two actresses have signed up for ABC family comedy pilot 'Bucktown', with Shannon on board as lead character Amy and Nicole set to play her "self-centred" boss Jan, who is described as "very professional — except in the extremely unprofessional partnership with her husband, Finn."

According to Deadline, a synopsis for the show - which has been created by Emily Wilson, Sara Gilbert and Tom Werner, the team behind 'The Conners - reads: "Bucktown centers on Amy, who, after being dumped by her boyfriend and kicked out of her apartment on the eve of a big promotion, finds refuge at her mom’s house in the blue-collar neighbourhood where she grew up.

"Amy reconnects with her teenage niece living there due to her sister’s latest rehab stint and resolves to stay when she realises that her mom and niece aren’t quite equipped to go it alone.

The programme marks Shannon's return to family comedy after her previous starring role in 'Raising Hope', while Nicole previously co-starred in 'Great News' for NBC and appeared in ABC's 'Bless This Mess', as well as having guest roles in both 'Grace and Frankie' and 'Camping'.

Meanwhile, Nicole recently insisted there is "no secret" to the success of her marriage to Joel Madden - the father of her children Harlow, 12, and Sparrow, 10 - other than to continue to see one another as "individuals".

She said: "There is no secret to marriage. Try to enjoy each other. Keep looking at each other as individuals, especially when you become parents.

"Go on a date and look at the other person as someone you chose to spend time with. We can get comfortable in our rhythms."

The former 'Simple Life' star believes motherhood has had more of an impact on her life than anything else.

She said: "The biggest change has been motherhood - but it's also about age. Kids make you feel very specific on how you spend your time and where you put your energy.

"Time with your kids is previous so it takes a lot for me to go to a social dinner. It's not as easy as it was when I was 22."
