The 'Dancing with a Stranger' hitmaker admits being in the girl group and constantly being compared to her fellow bandmates "took a toll" on her confidence.

She said: "Having certain things happen so blatantly while also feeling like the 'other' and being so young and hearing the public compare us took a toll on my confidence. For a long time, I didn't believe in myself because I didn't feel like I was given the opportunity to."

And the 24-year-old singer has been trying to "control" a narrative for herself and stay positive.

Speaking about positive affirmations, she added: "Words of affirmation are new for me. I look at myself in the mirror and manifest and speak things that I want to happen as if they already did, as if I’m already that version of myself. I’ve tried to flip it and control that narrative for myself."

Normani feels most at home when she's onstage and doesn't feel "judged" there.

She told the December issue of Women's Health magazine: "I'm at home when I’m onstage. I don’t feel misunderstood, judged, like I have to fit inside a barrier. I feel like I can be anything."

The 'Worth It' hitmaker previously revealed she still sees herself as the "girl next door".

She shared: "Vulnerability is talking about the fact that I do get anxiety sometimes, and just showing the consumer what that feels like for me. Just the fact that I am in a position that I’m in, but I don’t want to be so unattainable. I’m just the girl next door."
