The 43-year-old singer is set to get his very own musical as the bosses at Fox have won a pitch to use Pharrell's music as the basis for a brand new project helmed by Broadway director Michael Mayer.

The project, which is entitled 'Atlantis', is reported by The Hollywood Reporter magazine to be a "Romeo and Juliet style story" based on the 'Happy' hitmaker's childhood growing up in Virginia Beach, and will feature music from the star.

Pharrell and the project's producer Gil Netter took the pitch out to studios a few weeks ago, and garnered widespread interest in the concept from studios wanting their own musical number following on from the hugely popular 'La La Land'.

Fox were successful in securing the musical last week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As of yet, little is known about the plot of the musical, other than its basis within Pharrell's childhood. It is unknown if the project will also explore his hugely successful music career which has seen him nab 10 Grammy Awards as both a singer and a producer.

Director Michael Mayer is no stranger to helming musicals based on artists either, as he was previously known for his work on 'American Idiot', the musical which was adapted from the hit album of the same name by American rock band Green Day.

Michael has also directed 'Spring Awakening', for which he won a Tony Award.

Martin Hynes, who is currently writing 'Toy Story 4', will pen the script for the production.

Meanwhile, Pharrell has also recently made a move into cinema work too, as he worked as a producer on the critically acclaimed 'Hidden Figures', which was nominated for three Oscars including Best Picture.
