Pixie Geldof is "proud" of father Bob Geldof for keeping her strong following her mother's death.

The 22-year-old - whose mother Paula Yates died of a drug overdose in 2000 - praised her dad for the "outstanding" way he kept their family together following her death, aged 41, in 2000.

PIxie told Elle magazine: "I'm proud of my dad - he kept everyone on board while working his ass off.

"He's outstanding. Our family has been through ... stuff. Like everyone's. But we've come out of it in a good way - that strength of character is testimony to him.'"

Pixie and her sisters, Fifi Trixiebelle, 30, Peaches, 24 and half sister Tiger Lily, 15, were all young when their mother died, but remain positive about her and her memory.

Pixie added: "Yes, our mother's death was a terrible thing to happen to four young girls. We're not ashamed of it, but everyone's fine. It happened more than half my lifetime ago."

Bob later remarried to French actress Jeanne Marine, and Pixie said she welcomed her as a supportive step-mother

She added: "It wasn't like she suddenly turned up to be our new mum. Nothing got transferred onto her she was very supportive and understanding. Dad needed someone to take care of him to."
