The 41-year-old singer has taken to social media to express her delight at Joe Biden being named the President-elect and she's thrilled that Kamala Harris is set to make history by becoming the Vice President.

P!nk wrote on Twitter: "This news has brought me to tears. I was overwhelmed with relief for this country. I was overwhelmed for Kamala and the inspiration that she brings to girls everywhere. Van Jones made me cry ugly tears. This country has so much work to do to come together. I pray we can do it. [love-heart emoji] (sic)"

Mindy Kaling was similarly thrilled to see the election result, and in particular the achievement of Harris, who will become the first black woman to hold the Vice-President position.

The actress - who has Katherine, two, and Spencer, two months - wrote on Twitter: "Crying and holding my daughter, “look baby, she looks like us.” (sic)"

Elsewhere, Shakira revealed she was going to celebrate the election result with a "little dance" with her children.

The 'Whenever, Wherever' hitmaker called for a new approach towards climate change and "quality education and health services" for all following the election result.

Shakira - who has Sasha, five, and Milan, seven, with soccer star Gerard Pique - wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "Celebrating with my children this new phase of unity and healing that begins now with Biden as new president elect.

"The world is in the hands of someone civil and compassionate.

"Now it’s time to clean up the environment, provide quality education and health services to all. We all have to do our part, but the groundwork is laid.
