The 49-year-old singer has toured the world and won awards for his music, but he admits to still having deep-rooted insecurities and being "socially awkward".

He confessed: "I'm really insecure, to be honest.

"I'm super socially awkward but today, well the difference is that I know I'm socially awkward. So, I don't go anywhere that causes me anxiety."

Ricky actually feels more at ease in front of thousands of fans than he does in an intimate setting.

He told People magazine: "I'm at peace with performing in front of 30,000 people and feel like the king of the world.

"But then I walk into a small room at an intimate gathering, and someone will say, 'Hey Rick, sing a song for us!' and that creates such anxiety."

Meanwhile, Ricky recently admitted he's made sure to check up on his children’s mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 'Livin' la Vida Loca' hitmaker - who has twins Matteo and Valentino, 12, and Lucia and Renn, both two, with his husband Jwan Yosef - suffered with "anxiety" at the height of the pandemic and he wanted to talk to his brood to ensure they were not feeling the same way.

He said: "My family was doing great and I was checking up on my kids all the time, just to make sure that they're not feeling the anxiety that I was feeling, to be honest. But they were in a really good place."

Ricky and his family were quarantining with his mother during the pandemic, and his kids were “crazy happy” to have their grandmother with them.

He explained: "They were crazy happy to be with their grandparents because luckily my mom was with us the first four months of the pandemic. She came to visit us in LA and I was like, 'Mom, you're not going on another plane to go back home. Sorry. You're staying with us’.

"It was great that she was with us."
