Russell Crowe, Lindsay Lohan, Katy Perry and Naomi Campbell have become the latest stars to pay tribute to legendary comedienne Joan Rivers.

Rivers, who hosted the popular TV show 'Fashion Police', passed away yesterday (09.04.14) in hospital following surgical complications, and some of the entertainment industry's biggest names have taken to Twitter to pay their own tributes.

Russell Crowe wrote: "Dear Joan , 12 years being the butt of your jokes ...Then we met, had a laugh and I learned you were something amazing . Shine on. RIP (sic)"

Katy Perry took to Twitter to express her sadness, saying: "What's the point of wearing all these dumb costumes if Joan's not here to rip them apart RIP Joan Rivers. You are a one of a one (sic)."

Lindsay Lohan said: "We'd fuss but love was there. Cant believe ur gone. Love to your family. You were iconic and trailblazing. RIP Joan (sic)"

Meanwhile, Naomi Campbell wrote: "Loved your amazing spirit and Drive #RIP @Joan_Rivers joanrivers #tolditlikeitis #word (sic)"

Joan, 81, was taken to Mount Sinai hospital in New York last Thursday after experiencing complications with a routine operation on her vocal cords that caused her to go into cardiac arrest and stop breathing.

The comedienne was put into a medically-induced coma and placed on life support.

Her daughter Melissa, 46, said that Joan's condition was improving only for her to pass away a few hours later surrounded by friends and family.
