Ed Sheeran has reportedly paid for a primary school teacher to take a music course to help children with learning difficulties.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker is believed to have funded the cost for an unnamed teacher to undergo the training needed to help children who might find it difficult to make music with traditional instruments through his charity, the Framlingham Foundation Trust, which helps kids in the country of Suffolk, where he grew up.
Ed’s manager, Stuart Camp, oversees the good cause and the charity’s annual accounts, and told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “The foundation paid for a primary music teacher to undertake a specialist teaching course in the Kodaly learning method.
“This method is well known as an alternative to traditional music tuition (focusing predominantly on aural skills and intuitive skill) and allows those students with learning difficulties to access a world of musical creation they may otherwise find it difficult to connect with.”
The sweet news comes after Ed’s mum, Imogen, also recently set up a good cause working in the field of helping children learn to play instruments.
Imogen is registered as a director of the Suffolk Kodaly Community Interest Company, which aims to provide “progressive music education to children in schools across the east of Suffolk”.
And in February, she wrote in documents lodged at Companies House: “Kodaly’s approach to music education is based on teaching, learning and understanding music through the experience of singing - giving direct access to the world of music without the technical problems involved with the use of an instrument.”
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Ed previously revealed he was miserable in school until he learned the guitar and began singing.
He said last year: “I hated primary school with a passion, I cried every day.
"I’m ginger so I was instantly ripped into from the day I started school - ginger, had a stutter and wore huge glasses, just a bit odd.
“But I got to high school, started playing guitar and joined a band. Music is one of those things that can give you confidence.”
