The mother of Simon Cowell's unborn baby turned to him because she was lonely.
Lauren Silverman, the estranged wife of the 53-year-old music mogul's friend Andrew Silverman is 10 weeks pregnant with Simon's child and Lauren's stepfather, Stewart Eisenberg, insists her marriage was on the rocks because her husband was often away on business.
He told MailOnline: "I think he is smitten and overwhelmed by Lauren as she is with him. She was not too happy in her marriage and got swept away.
"I mean she had the money but you can't cuddle up to five Gucci bags and a credit card or take them under your arm when you go out to dinner.
"I don't think either one intended to plant the seed, but I think they will rise to the occasion and make everything all right.
"Things have not been great between he and Lauren for a while.
"She is certainly not a gold digger. That's ridiculous. She is very talented and had her own career in fashion and Andrew was very successful in real estate. She doesn't need Simon's money."
Lauren's mother, Carole Saland, who is divorced from Mr. Eisenberg, also insists her daughter has done nothing wrong and her marriage had difficulties before she got involved with Simon.
She said: "Lauren doesn't deserve all of this bad publicity, she's a nice girl from Miami Beach.
"Things happen in life. [We are] living in 2013. Her marriage was not a marriage made in heaven and life goes on, people go on."
