Tiger Woods has undergone a successful procedure

The 47-year-old golf legend has had a "subtalar fusion" performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley at New York's HSS Sports Medicine Institute, and the procedure will help with post-traumatic arthritis he's suffering from since his February 2021 car crush.

On Wednesday (19.04.23), a statement on Twitter read: "Earlier today, Tiger underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address his post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture.

"It was performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Institute in New York City. He has determined the surgery to be successful.

"Tiger is currently recovering and looks forward to beginning his rehabilitation."

This year's Masters had marked the athlete's 25th time at the event, during which he told reporters his leg was "sore" following the first round.

As shared by ESPN, Woods said he deals with "constant" pain in his right leg, adding: "Hopping on the left leg is fine. If I did it on the other one, not so fine."

Over the weekend, he revealed he was pulling out of the competition.

He tweeted: "I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis.

"Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!"

The Master Tournament itself added: "Due to injury, @TigerWoods has officially withdrawn from the Masters Tournament after completing seven holes of his third round. #themasters."

Meanwhile, earlier this week Woods admitted he wasn't sure if this would be his last time competing in the elite event.

According to CNN, he said: "I don't know how many more I have in me. So just to be able to appreciate the time that I have here and cherish the memories."

And back in December, the five-time Masters winner hinted he could be nearing retirement.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, he told reporters: "The goal is to play just the major championships and maybe one or two more. That's it. I mean, that's physically, that's all I can do."
