Zach Galifianakis thinks it's "sh*t" being a celebrity.

The star says the notion of fame is "dumb" and hates the attention that comes with being an actor.

Speaking at a press conference for Hollywood satire Birdman, he explained: "Being a celebrity is s**t. It's dumb. I'm not interested in it. I like to be an actor and that's it.

"I'm just being honest. I would rather do my work and go home and watch Lifetime or something."

He went on to insist that "celebrity" and its whole idea is "man-made" and fans only develop such huge interest in the lives of their favourite stars because they've been conditioned to believe it's something to care about.

"I think celebrity is a man-made thing. It's not innate in us. We have people telling us we should pay attention to these people for the wrong reasons - their personal lives and that stuff."

Birdman co-star Michael Keaton thinks anyone could think of themselves as a celebrity nowadays.

He said: "I think everybody is kind of a celebrity now. Anybody can be anything.

"While [the public is] enamoured by it, I guess, and buy magazines, I don't think [celebrity] is a big deal anymore.

"I think everybody is kind of their own celebrity in their own head, and they kind of are. We're living in this really weird world where people are everywhere. They're omnipresent."
