Andy Rooney passed away earlier this month
Andy Rooney's memorial service was all drama on Wednesday when mourners were told one of the late TV star's closest pals had died at the service.
The veteran journalist, who passed away earlier this month, was being remembered at a special tribute ceremony in New York City on Wednesday afternoon when close family and friends of Rooney were left stunned when his wheelchair-bound former college roommate Bob Ruthman suffered a cardiac arrest mid-service.
The newsman's son, Brian, reportedly stood on a chair and mistakenly announced to the crowd that Ruthman had passed away, according to TMZ.com.
But medics revived Rooney's elderly friend, who studied with the star at Colgate University in the 1940s, and he is now in an intensive care unit at a city hospital.
