Sport Relief Bike Ride

A host of celebrities will be rising to the challenge for Sport Relief by attempting to raise a whopping £1 million on a nonstop cycle relay through day and night from John O’Groats to Land’s End, supported by BT.

Sport Relief veteran David Walliams has enlisted Jimmy Carr, Fearne Cotton, Miranda Hart, Russell Howard, Patrick Kielty and Davina McCall for The BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride which launches today (4th February).

The courageous team will be setting off from John O’Groats and it will be approximately 80 gruelling hours of nonstop cycling before they reach Land’s End.

They will have to battle the elements at all hours of the day as they each take turns to cycle through wind, rain, and rough terrain in order to cover the 1000 miles and try to reach their massive £1 million target. Each celebrity will take turns cycling while the others cheer them on from the tour bus, their home for four days.

All the ups and downs of their journey will be captured for a documentary which will be broadcast on the BBC in the run up to the Sport Relief Weekend on Friday 19th - Sunday 21st March.

David is no stranger to rising to the challenge for Sport Relief: "As if swimming the English Channel in 2006 wasn’t enough I’ve now roped in a team of people to help me rise to the challenge for Sport Relief again!

"It’s a phenomenal undertaking and going to be really tough but we’re all training hard to make sure we all get to Land’s End and hopefully raise a million pounds for Sport Relief.

"I’ve seen what money raised through Sport Relief can do and it really does make a difference. It will be this keeping me going through the tough journey ahead."

To help the team get off to a flying start, BT is declaring ‘Chat for Change’ day on 26 February 2010. On behalf of its customers, BT will donate 1p to Sport Relief for every call made from a BT and a Plusnet home landline on that day

The money raised through this extraordinary challenge, with the help of BT, will be spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives here in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries. To sponsor the team go to sportrelief.com.
