Denise Richards felt compelled to tell her five-year-old daughter that her father, Charlie Sheen, had spent Christmas Day (25Dec09) in jail when the child was asked about the headline-grabbing news story by a friend at school.
The former Bond Girl kept the truth from her daughters and lied to them about their dad's whereabouts when he called from jail in Aspen, Colorado to wish them a Merry Christmas.
But she felt she had to come clean when her eldest child started asking about her dad's Christmas Day fight with his current wife Brooke Mueller.
Richards says, "It's very difficult to explain that... My daughter had a girl come up to her at school and say, 'Your dad was in jail; is he still there?' I didn't say what happened."
Richards married Sheen back in 2002 after the pair met whilst workingon Scary Movie 3. But Richards filed for divorce in 2005.
While the pair did temporary reconcile Richards continued with the divorce in 2006.
Sheen remarried in 2008 to Brooke Mueller, with whom he has two children. But th actor was arrested over Christmas on charges of domestic violence.
