Freida Pinto has signed up to star in Rise of the Apes alongside James Franco and John Lithgow.

The sci-fi movie will follow a scientist, played by Franco, who is trying to develop a cure by Alzheimer's disease, which is being tested on apes.

According to Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog Pinto will take on the role of a primatologist while Lithgow with play Alzheimer's sufferer and Franco's father.

The movie is scheduled for a 2011 release and will get begin shooting later this year.

Pinto shot to fame in Slumdog Millionaire, which went on to win a string of Oscars; including Best Picture back in 2009, but has been cautious over her film choices.

She will be back on the big screen later this year with You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, a Woody Allen movie, which also stars Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin.

She is currently filming Immoratals with Mickey Rourke while she has already completed work on Miral, which also stars Willem Dafoe and Vanessa Redgrave.
