Gabriel Byrne broke down in tears of joy when his ex-wife Ellen Barkin made her Broadway debut in The Normal Heart last month.
Barkin told the New York Post that Byrne was in her dressing room on the opening night "crying his eyes out" much like she did when he starred in Moon for the Misbegotten.
The Ocean's Thirteen actress, who divorced the Byrne in 1999, has remained close to the Stigmata star and admits she is grateful to still have his unwavering support 12 years after their split.
She says, "When you fall in love with someone, there are reasons - they don't disappear. Gabirel Byrne is an extroadinary human being. We have two extraodinary children and we work at it. We are always friends, he stuck by me through very hard times and I hope he'd say the same about me."
Barkin went on to marry businessman Ronald Perelman, but the marriage ended in 2006 with a messy divorce. Despite this, the star refuses to rule out walking down the aisle again.
She said, "I like being married. I like taking care of people, having someone to make dinner for."
