Comedian/Actor Jonah Hill has asked fans to donate $10 (£6.25) to the charity Nothing But Nets as a birthday present to him.

Nothing But Nets is an anti-malaria campaign set up by the United Nations Foundation and helps to provide bed nets for children in Africa.

The bed nets are life saving as, in Africa, malaria is the biggest cause of death in children under five-years-old.

Hill, who turned 28 on Tuesday, has thrown his support behind the charity and is urging fans to dig deep and give all they can to benefit the cause.

He said, “I'm excited to ask people to be extra nice to me and celebrate with friends. I'm really excited to peer pressure all my friends into buying me a gift. I want everyone to dig deep into their pockets and cough up $10. $10 sends a bed net to kids in Africa. I hate mosquitoes. I hate malaria more. I love birthdays and I love anyone who donates $10 for my birthday. If you donate $30 I will love you three times as much."
