Paul Rudd and his father have started their own chain of Irish pubs - building the drinking establishments in their own basements.

The I Love You, Man star reveals his dad had the initial idea of transforming part of his home into a bar to honour the actor's son Jack Sullivan.

He says, "I have a pub in my house upstate in New York. I built a pub in my home. My father did the same thing.

"When my son was born we named him Jack Sullivan Rudd and my father said, 'I'm gonna build my grandson his own Irish pub.' So he converted the basement of his house and turned it into an Irish pub called Sullivan's.

"And about a year later, when he finished, I went to see it and he had Guinness on draught and everything, it's brilliant.

"It doesn't look like you built a pub in a house, it looks like someone built a house over a pub!"

And Rudd was so impressed by his dad's handiwork, he was inspired to follow his lead.

He adds, "A few years ago, I bought a house upstate (in New York) and built Sullivan's East. It's amazing, it's got tin ceilings, a 30-foot bar, Guinness on draught. Shuffleboards, historical artifacts and stuff."
