Robert Downey, Jr. enjoyed a superhero birthday party on Saturday when members of his new Iron Man movie joined him for his 44th.

The actor partied at the Beverly Hills Thompson Hotel in Los Angeles with his wife Susan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau and Sam Rockwell, who will join him for the new film.

Paltrow brought husband Chris Martin to the bash, which was also attended by the actor's pals Sting and Trudie Styler, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor.

The guests toasted the birthday boy with hot sake.

In other Iron Man news Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have been officially confirmed for the sequel - by the film's star, Robert Downey, Jr.

After weeks of speculation, Downey, Jr. reveals the pair will play villains in the film.

He says, "They are both cast and doing Iron Man 2. Garry Shandling is in the film. Of course we have Don Cheadle. We have Sam Jackson. We have Sam Rockwell. And we, of course, have, my dearest heart, Gwyneth Paltrow."
