U2 rockers, Bono and the Edge are due to perform at the awards

The Tony Awards are threatened to be disrupted by members of the stagehands' union in New York due to a work contract dispute.

The prize-giving ceremony is rumoured to have 400 members of the protest group lined up with inflatable rats to demonstrate against the loss of the contract.

Stars nominated for awards at the star-studded ceremony include Al Pacino, Vanessa Redgrave, Ellen Barkin and Edie Falco.

Along side them, performing, there is rumoured to be Daniel Radcliffe and U2 stars; Bono and the Edge.

However, if this demonstration is to take place, it could stop many A-list stars wanting to walk down the red carpet in front of the picket line.

Protest union, Local 1 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees' president, James J. Claffey Jr. said: "I'd be very surprised to see Tony-nominated actors walking a non-union red carpet as 400 of our members are walking a line nearby."

The Tony Awards will be help on June 12 at The Beacon Theatre in Manhattan.
