Awards season is one of the most exciting times in showbusiness, and it continued this past weekend with the 24th Critics' Choice Awards. There were some big surprises on the night, including a pair of dual winners, so we've put together the five biggest shocks from the event, as well as all of the results!

Biggest shocks

5) Lady Gaga and Glenn Close tie for Best Actress

Not even the panel could decide on a Best Actress this year, as both Glenn Close and Lady Gaga took home prizes for their performances in The Wife and A Star Is Born respectively! Hugely deserved by both of the contenders, it was Gaga who gave perhaps the speech of the night when she dedicated her award to "the true star of the film", perseverance in the face of addiction and alcoholism.

4) Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette ALSO tie

Battling it out in the Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series category, Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette proved to be too good to ignore, as both took home a gong for their performances in Sharp Objects and Escape at Dannemora respectively. Seeing such incredibly talented women celebrated and lifted up in this way is inspiring, and something we should see a lot more of at ceremonies of this kind!

3) Mission: Impossible - Fallout's Best Action Movie win

Going up against Black Panther was going to be a tough task for anybody in the Best Action Movie category, so to see Mission: Impossible - Fallout take home the prize left many with their mouths wide open! Don't get us wrong, it's an absolutely fantastic action flick, and one every junkie of the genre should watch over and over again, but we thought the residents of Wakanda would have brought this one home!

2) No love for Bohemian Rhapsody

Despite being nominated in three categories (when really it should have been many more), Bohemian Rhapsody failed to win any of the awards it was up for. A shame, because the talent on screen that helped bring Queen's story to life are more than deserving.

1) Roma wins Best Picture

Now we know it's been a clear favourite amongst its competitors, but it's so rare to see a foreign language movie take home the Best Picture prize at any American awards ceremony that we just had to include Roma's huge win in our biggest shocks! The Spanish-language drama, helmed by director Alfonso Cuarón, was shot entirely in black and white, and is one of 2018's biggest jewels.
