Today is Calvin Klein’s birthday, a great reason to look back at some of the notable moments of one of the most recognisable brands in the world.

Calvin Klein has several visible brand names in the heavy portfolio, all featuring different styles and labels for different target markets.

The higher end designer line is the Calvin Klein Collection, but Calvin Klein Jeans, ck Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein (sports) are all also well-known. What is also talked about a lot, is the controversial and provocative advertising campaigns. Though they are often criticised - sometimes even banned - they are memorable, simplistic and certainly succeed in catching attention.

Calvin Klein models are always handpicked for their classic style; here are some of our favourites.

Kate Moss

Kate Moss is now one of the most famous supermodels in the world, and it was at Calvin Klein where it all began. Her collaboration with the brand brought her to fashion icon status.

She rose to fame just after the ‘supermodel era’ which featured the likes of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Elle Macpherson.

As well as being on billboards for Calvin Klein, Kate has also worked with Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbanna, Versace… the list goes on, and on, and on…

Her modelling career has been fruitful, and she received an award at the British Fashion Awards to acknowledge her contribution to fashion over 25 years. She is also a contributing fashion editor for British Vogue.

Christy Turlington

American model, charity-founder and campaigner, Christy Turlington is another huge name in the modelling industry - and she has worked with Calvin Klein.

On two occasions, in 1989 and in 2014, Christy represented Calvin Klein’s Eternity campaign. She has also worked with Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, and many others.

Dutch supermodel, Lara Stone, was discovered in the Paris Metro aged only 12. She has worked on CK campaigns and Calvin Klein Cosmetics, both in 2008.

She went on to make fashion history two years later, when she signed an exclusive deal with Calvin Klein Inc, to become the face of Calvin Klein Collection, ck Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein Jeans. It was the first time in years that the fashion house had chosen to use the same model for three of its brands.

Natalia Vodianova

Russian supermodel, philanthropist, entrepreneur and activist, Natalia Vodianova, earned herself the nickname, ‘Supernova’, for her work in the industry.

She is well-known for her eight-season, seven-figure contract with Calvin Klein. She is currently ranked by models.com as one of the new supers in the industry.

Just a handful of other brands she has completed advertising campaigns for are Prada, Givenchy, Hugo Boss, Nina Ricci, Versace, Marc Jacobs.

Eva Mendes is an American actress, but that hasn’t stopped her expanding her career into modelling.

She has been a spokesperson and an ambassador for Calvin Klein, and appeared nude in a 2008 print advertisement for their Secret Obsession perfume an ad which was banned in the United States.

She has had roles in endless movies, has been involved with modelling, singing and fashion designing. Is there anything she can’t do?

A recent campaign was with the Kardashian/Jenner clan. Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kylie and Kendall all got involved with the shoot which fans loved.

Kendall has previously worked with Calvin Klein, but this shoot was particularly special because it featured all the sisters together.

As one of the most - if not, the most - influential families in the world, the campaign photos certainly attracted plenty of attention.

The brand is the master of publicity and capturing the audience through their campaigns.

Happy birthday to the brains behind it all!
