Summer is prime-time for fresh delicious salads and succulent barbecues, but new data from Knorr reveals how Britons’ eating habits change with the weather.

International Flavours

Following the hottest day of the year so far, the scorching temperatures have driven UK gastronauts to go in search of more international fare -  with the likes of Lasgane alla Bolognese from Italy and Curried Chicken with Watercress from India making the top ten recipes on the site.

The June data shows that 40% of the top ten most searched for recipes were of Italian origin, so it’s no surprise to see that Italy is the number one culinary destination for British food lovers with a third (38%) choosing it as their favourite.

And, research from Knorr also shows that the summer inspires more international flavours with almost half (41%) of Brits cooking their favourite foreign holiday dish at home.

However, despite a clear foreign influence, Brits are still traditionalists at heart - with Fish Pie and Cottage Pie featuring in the top five recipe searches this month.

Warm weather but winter warmers still on the menu

May site data from Knorr.co.uk revealed a nation unable to kick old habits - with comfort food clinging to family dinner menus - despite it being the hottest Spring on record.

70% of the ten most popular recipes were traditional ‘winter warmers’ such as Steak and Ale Pie and Roast Beef with Yorkshire Puddings and Gravy. The most popular meal in May was Marco Pierre White’s Simple Fish Pie, picking up one in five searches (19%).

Marco Pierre White says, "Despite the influence of foreign food from our favourite holidays, it’s great to see British cooks knocking up more traditional dishes such as pies and roasts.

With the warm weather hopefully here to stay, I would expect to see a lot of lighter fish and chicken dishes making their way into the top ten next month."
