World’s first food-scented camera

However, a new invention could be set to change this.  Zhu Jingxuan, a student at the Fashion & Art Design Institute of Donghua University in China, has won the ‘most fun’ award from Sony's annual Student Design Workshop for her food printer.

The invention works through a complicated science process, using an electronic nose to analyse smells, using different scented inks that are stored within the printer.  The aroma inks are then used to create the image.

While this product seems fairly pointless (though a cute idea) at first, it could revolutionise the photographing experience for travellers and food journalists, as they will be able to capture a more rounded image of food, which can then be shown to other people.  The food printer isn’t available to buy yet, but it could be on sale to consumers in the future.

A spokesperson from Sony told Wired magazine, "We think this idea is very interesting. In China, many people love to take photos of delicious food and upload them to social networking services for family and friends to see. This design can help record the memory of the event too.

“Recording the smell of food is very interesting because you get good and bad smells, it will make communication with friends more amusing.”
