The Nacon Revolution Unlimited Pro Controller
The Nacon Revolution Unlimited Pro Controller

It's hard to convey just how good a gaming controller really is without putting it in the hands of the people interested. Being lucky enough to check out the Nacon Revolution Unlimited Pro Controller however, that's exactly what I'll be trying to convey through the next few hundred words!

Officially licensed for PlayStation 4, and available throughout Europe priced at RRP £149.99, this isn't a casual investment, and shouldn't be treated as such for the casual gamer. Instead, it's a luxury for those more avid players who enjoy competitive online play and the like.

For those gamers who haven't ever expanded outside of the provided controllers packaged with their gaming consoles, picking up something like the Pro is a real awakening. Before using the controller, you wonder just how different and better your experience can be. After countless hours with the Pro in-hand, I can confirm that it elevates your gaming life to a completely different level.

Wireless play is available via a Bluetooth connection, with a USB receiver provided within the controller's packaging. The dongle works up to seven metres away from the player; sure, most of us don't have gaming rooms where we need to be that far away from our screen, but this provides certainty that your controller won't be dropping out at random moments of play. Just make sure to keep the seven-hour battery life topped up!

Along with the usual buttons and touch pad we've come to expect from PS4 controllers, there are four shortcut buttons, and the option to personalise analog sticks with interchangeable heads and 30°/38°/46° amplitude. Those shortcuts make it incredibly easy to throw out your favourite weapons and assault the enemy, so long as you map them properly.

You don't have to jump into specific games to map those shortcuts, as is usually the case. Simply hold down the profile button for a few seconds, before selection the shortcut you want to map, and then the button you want to copy over to that shortcut.

There are also internal weight compartments, with six additional weights (2x10g, 2x14g, 2x16g) included so that you can explicitly customise your controller.

Nacon have admitted they had eSports in mind when they were creating this new PS4 accessory, and that's immediately clear for anybody who enjoys climbing the competitive ladder in Overwatch, or similar titles. Upping your game is essential, and that's exactly what this controller allows you to do.

As for the look and feel, the Pro seems to bind to your hands beautifully. The original PS4 controller is a little too thin for many hardcore gamers, often causing cramp and discomfort, but that's remedied with perfection here.

It also showcases a much more 'adult' look overall, sleek and grey without feeling the need to bring the multi-coloured shapes on the right hand side of most PS4 controllers on board.

If you want the edge during online competitive play, you can't go far wrong with this controller. Practice will of course make perfect; don't expect to be a whizz using the Pro immediately. But, if you stick with it and give the controller the time it deserves, you'll soar.

Nacon's Revolution Unlimited Pro Controller is now available at a recommended retail price of £149.99. You can follow Nacon on Twitter @NaconGaming and find out more about their products at their official website, www.nacongaming.com
