The gaming giants revealed at Sony's Tokyo Game Show briefing this week that they are working on a new game which is largely being kept in the dark, but is believed to be a mech action game described as a "survival-action shooter."

Little else is known about the project, but 'Metal Gear' character designer Yoji Shinkawa has been hired to create the characters for the game, which already has fans excited for the title's 2018 release.

Square Enix did showcase some of Yoji's concept art during the briefing, but aside from the still - which features three characters, an older male, a younger male, and a female - nothing else has been made public.

Joining Yoji in creating the game will be director Toshifumi Nabeshima, whose previous work includes production on the 'Armored Core' series and 'Chromehounds' at FromSoftware.

Meanwhile, Square Enix recently made a remastered version of 'Final Fantasy IX', the ninth instalment in the hugely popular role playing franchise, available on PlayStation 4 as the game celebrates its 17th anniversary this year.

Shortly after the briefing, PlayStation UK tweeted the news that the game is coming to UK consoles in digital format, and can be downloaded for just £16.99.

They wrote: "FINAL FANTASY IX is on PS4 today for only £16.99 Buy on PS store for a custom theme by Toshiyuki Itahana & 8 avatars (sic)"

And, according to the worldwide PlayStation Twitter account, the game is also available to players in other regions through the PlayStation Store.
