Swedish landscape architect, and Chelsea newcomer, Ulf Nordfjell has scooped the ultimate prize at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. A prized RHS gold medal went to the aptly named ‘Tribute to Linnaeus’, which celebrates the tercentenary of the Swedish botanist, scientist and explorer, Carl Linnaeus. The garden was Commissioned by the National Tercentenary Committee in Stockholm in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and The Swedish Institute

Ulf said of his win; ‘It has been a great honour to design a garden for this world renowned show and an even greater honour to dedicate it to the memory of such pioneering horticulturalist. To win a gold medal has just been incredible. I could not have done it without the enduring support of my Swedish and UK team. The British media have given us an outstanding reception and it seems now so are the British public at Chelsea”

The show garden is a contemporary design. Its composition, materials chosen and plant selections all pay tribute to particular aspects of Linnaeus and his native landscape. Many of the themes explored in the garden design are deeply rooted in the cultural heritage and identity of Sweden.
