The spectacularly planted Leeds City Council Garden, sponsored by Munroe K, has won a highly prestigious RHS Bronze medal. This garden, designed by City Council Parks and Countryside Services, is currently being re-created at the White Rose Office Park in Leeds where it will contribute to the ambiance of the park, providing an additional feature for both tenants and visitors to enjoy.

On receiving the RHS medal Denise Preston, Chief Recreation Officer and Head of Parks said, “This is great achievement for us. Our primary aim is to highlight and develop the horticultural skills of our team and to present the city of Leeds in a positive light. The garden has undoubtedly achieved this and to win a medal is a great bonus!”

David Aspin of Munroe K was also delighted with the garden’s achievement “To come to this great show and leave with a coveted RHS Medal is fantastic. Leeds City Council did an amazing job on the garden and we are delighted that it will live on at the White Rose Office Park.’’

The process of designing, developing and constructing the garden played a key role in providing skills development opportunities for the staff of Leeds City Council, both in horticulture and landscape construction; project planning; and PR.

The objective of the garden was to highlight the industrial heritage and the current prosperity of the city of Leeds, and features both modern and traditional materials to reflect this. The form of the garden has been inspired by the shapes of garment templates from Leeds’ historic clothing industry. All of the plant material has been prepared, either grown or grown on, at the council nursery.
