Get ready for a night of romance and ensure your home is in the right mood with these tips.

Helen Leigh-Jones, Designer at DFS gives her advice on how to prepare your home for a romantic Valentine’s Day.

“An evening in for two on Valentine’s Day can be much more romantic than going out - all it takes is a little bit of imagination to create some ambiance. Here are my top tips on how to get your home ready to evoke some romance this Valentine’s Day!"

1) Lighting is incredibly important to achieve ambiance. I’d suggest candles on Valentine’s Day as they create the perfect soft, warm, romantic glow. Fairy lights are a lovely way of setting the mood as well.

2) It may sound cliched, but flowers are always romantic on Valentine’s Day. Choose fresh rose petals to scatter around your home or place a few small arrangements throughout the house, and the smell of fresh flowers will add to the ambiance.

3) Snuggle in comfort this Valentines by getting cosy on a Love Seat. Make sure you have a throw, a box of chocolates and some wine within arm’s length so you don’t have to move from each other’s arms all evening.

4) Turn off the TV, put away your phone and put some romantic background music on instead. A Valentine’s Day at home should be about reconnecting and spending quality time together, away from modern technology.

5) Instead of dining where you usually do why not spread a rug on your living room floor and enjoy a romantic picnic – the change of scenery will make the evening memorable and special.”
