It might seem extreme but there are several benefits to separating screen time and bedtime. Here are just a few…

Minimalism on Female First

Minimalism on Female First

Your sleep should improve- So many studies have shown that exposure to screens before bedtime helps to keep you awake. Take this out of the equation and you should start to have a better quality and deeper sleep. Try it for a few nights and see how you feel the next day- you might be surprised at the difference.

It is more sociable- If your only TV is in your living room you, can’t sneak off to your bedroom to watch something separately. So, you are encouraged to watch things together and you end up spending more time with your family as a result. This can seek to benefit those relationships because there is more opportunity to talk to one another.

It helps with intimacy with your partner- If you have nothing to distract you from the person lying next to you, you will inevitably start to entertain each other instead! If your romantic life is suffering this could be the answer you’ve been looking for.

It also generates more fruitful conversations- If you don’t feel like being physical with your partner- now there isn’t anything stopping you from talking through your ideas, thoughts and feelings with your lover. Some of the best conversations happen in bed. You might even decide to start having breakfast in bed on your day off together to further this conversation without the news and weather on in the background.

It encourages more worthwhile pursuits- If you don’t have a screen to help you zone out- you might replace this activity with reading a good book, creating some art or writing in a journal or notebook. All of which are more fulfilling than watching other people do things.

It creates more space in your room- A simple fact- but true. It appeals to minimalists out there who are looking to reduce the things in their bedroom. Even for those who wouldn’t class themselves as a minimalist- it gives a cleaner look to your surroundings. You might be able to use that space for something more beautiful like a plant or piece of artwork. If not- you can simply leave it empty and enjoy the sense of freedom it brings.

It creates a sanctuary- Your bedroom should be a place of calm and having a TV on in the background isn’t conducive with the mood you need to create in this space of your home. You never see any screens in spas do you? There’s a reason.

The clue is in the name- bedroom- it's a room for a bed not a TV.
